The rear end casting went through several design revisions, though the basic design was definitely the same. According to one of the IH books I've got, the gears got heavier as the tractors got bigger. I suppose much of the weight gain was from internals, not the casting itself. The major difference was when you went from the 14XX to the 15XX; instead of bull gears, the final drives were planetary. Frankly, if you're planning on marrying a 706 rearend to anything but a 706, do so with the understanding that you could tear its guts out.
