They were not that rare, I had a 400D from about 1971 until 1982. It was a real work horse. My Dad would have been 90 in Nov. if he were still alive, I have heard him talk about Granddad being the head of the 8 mile road district when he was a boy and they tried out an IH crawler to pull the grader. He said he sat on the hood and held on to the exhaust pipe. The old 400 you could remove the muflier with a pair of leather gloves on. The exhaust ran real cool on them
