John - So long as you got all the loose scale removed and there�s nothing blocking the passages, the engine will cool just fine with the scale that�s left. Also as long as you get only clear water out when you flush the block/radiator before assembly there�s no need to flush it again after everything is back together.

Using Cat coolant + additive will work fine. Keep in mind the H cooling system was designed to work filled with untreated, muddy pond water...running Cat antifreeze will be a real treat for it!!
