Be sure to check the grounding of the front lights. The cross piece is clamped the the steering post which in turn is bolted to the transmission cover, etc. Use a test light to see if you have power at the front light wires and be sure the test light is grounded when using it.
I always recommend testing or verifying the problem before trying to fix something that is already working!
