Bill, The aluminum crimp material is the same that is used in kitchen range hood filters. These can be found at box stores like Homer Despot or Lowes. I cut them into 2"x6" strips, crumple them up into a rope shape and feed it into the inside of the breather cap and use an old coat hanger with a 1/2" horseshoe like hook on the end of it to help push it down and around the shoulder of the breather cap. Another substance that can be used is a copper pot scrubber available at most groceries or WallyWorld. With either make sure you don't loose any down the filler pipe. This won't eliminate the smoke.
