Mike: That is not unusual, back then tractors selling as fast as the Farmall line was. IH would run as much as 2-3 years supply of one casting then change to another. If the castings were much more than that, then cause for alarm. It is not uncommon to find tractors today with castings off by 5 to 10 years. Letter series Farmalls were built for 15 years and most castings will bolt up on a given model. There are a few exceptions.

There are also tractors out that didn't get sold new until 2 years after production. Most of this happened vast distances from factories in IL. I grew up in Nova Scotia Canada, and this was very common out there. Tractors there are registered with registry of motor vehicles. My SA is a 53 and was first registered in 55. I have seen tractors where that spread was 3 years.
