Paul: the reason most people use the belt pulley on offset Farmalls is to get enough speed on the belly mower. You can drive from existing PTO shaft, but you need a pulley large enough that you must cut end off fender or remove it. My mower, a Woods 59 has a 10" V pulley even for the belt pulley gear box. I don't remember the exact figures but I believe belt pulley shaft speed is slightly over 1000 rpm when pto is at 540 rpm.
