The advantage of 12 volts over 6 volts is that
it uses half as many amps to do the same amount
of work therefore you can use smaller wiring
and switches. This is a real issue if you are
building millions of cars or large aircraft
that uses miles of heavy and expensive copper
wire for you its a non issue. As long as you
can get the parts the easiest thing to do is
put it back to original just use your service
and parts manuals.
