Yeah Wayne � proper terminology here would help! I referred the high speed needle orifice a �seat� simply because the old timers who passed their carb knowledge down to me many years ago called �em seats. Perhaps orifice is too hard to pronounce? Or maybe because you begin adjustment the adjustment by turning the mixture screw in all the way until it �seats�? Who knows... Anyway as you suggest if the high speed screw was simply screwed in tight, opening it back up as required will cure the problem. However often when the screw is removed it�ll break loose bits of screw shaft packing, varnish, etc on it�s way out. The junk then gets into and clogs the seat...oops � the ORIFICE...and you wind up with a chronic lean condition. Cleaning it out is the only fix.
