I am no expert but I did recently rework the shifter on my A. One of the rail guides had a piece missing and the poppet springs were old and weak. The shifting was loose and sloppy so I replaced one guide and the springs and did nothing to the transmission itself. The shifting is now tight and accurate. That guide cost $90, but what was the alternative?
