The end of the bar will drop 2-3 feet(I think, never measured) below ground level. I don't have any center mount experience; they are designed for roadside mowing so likely have more down travel. Depending on the material being mowed, I use 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gear. With the engine running at operating RPM's (540 PTO) the sickle will cut 1" diameter or greater brush. Wouldn't recommend as a steady diet though; that what brush cutters are for. I have the mower on a Super C Farmall but have mowed many miles & acres with a semi-mounted #27 on an H Farmall. Even used a #5 John Deere mower on a H for a time.
