Hi Joe, On the older equipment, the PTO shaft guard was generally stationary; it didn't rotate as these newer ones do and was just more or less a "hood" over the machines shaft. The implement guard then hooked into that slot with a spring-loaded bolt arrangement to hold it aligned with the tractor and over the forward end of the machine's PTO shaft. That's why most of those old H and M guards ended up standing in the corner of the shop. They were really a hassel. Allan
