I would wait for a diesel unless you just want it for light loader work ect. If you work it hard it will stick or burn valves plus kill your pocket book with fuel bills. Putting in a diesel would work if you have a parts tractor for the rear engine plate, fuel tank, throttle linkage ect. might be costly to find all the needed parts. I have a 686 with the 312 and its my favorite tractor, like it more than my 7810 deere. I raked 200 acres of first crop hay with a 10 wheel v rake on less than 1 tank of fuel, can't beat that!
