Man vs. manifold.....

Since the 560 broke down today (oil pressure gauge line broke), and I finished baling hay early this afternoon, I decided to finally attack the exhaust manifold on the "49 H that I have been putting off for 2 years or so.

After reading and posting and reading on the YT site for a year or so to decide on the best plan (new manifold, re-tap, jury-rig a bracket, etc...) I finally broke down and bought a 2" tap on Ebay a couple weeks ago ($30 for a brand-new, spiral fluted tap) and unwrapped it today. It took some figuring to be able to get enough "down pressure" to make it bite, but with the help of a 2# hammer and a big wrench I got the exhaust stack threads re-cut in about 20 minutes. No more wobble, no more popping off when I hit a hole in the hayfield!

In fact, it went so well that I gave the 560 a "treatment" too, and now they both have a snug and tight manifold/pipe connection. Sure wish I hadn"t put it off 2 years.
