Just got done with a similar (if not the same) problem with a 460. The steering shaft was approximately 7/8 OD and had a VERY fine thread on it. The threads were in bad shape and the thread pitch was VERY fine and therefore strange. I attempted to rethread the shaft with a 7/8 UNF die (can't remember the thread per inch count, maybe 7/8 -14 UNF). The die did not bite into the shaft enough to yield adequate threads. Knowing that a course thread bites deeper into the stock material, I used a 7/8-9 UNC die. The threading went fairly easy. The new threads are not perfect as far as depth is concerned, but after all, your not asking the nut that holds the steering wheel on to do that much work. Turned out great. I have NEVER heard of a 13/16 diameter thread.
