I use AMSOIL and they recommend that you flush your engine before switching to synthetic if you have more than 20,000 miles on it. Personally, I'd leave it as it is, but change your oil twice as soon the first time. As for Cubber's statement about all synthetic oils are mineral based: WRONG! Some oils are made using a modified mineral base, but I consider these to be inferrior to the real deal. Castrol Syntec is in fact, one of these oils. They had to go to court to even use the name synthetic. Know your synthetic oils - they are not all equal. As for a waste of money: I run my AMSOIL for a full year. I change my filter twice a year. I drive 17,000 miles a year and I spend under $40 per year on oil and filter changes. Let's see you do that with your regular oil, Cubber.
