There should be a small steel or aluminum plate, held in place with 4 rivets, on the left hand side of the tractor. It should be on the clutch housing, below the oil bath air cleaner. If it is not there it is because someone has removed it. Also, I think maybe the very early 1939 models may not have had this plate, in which case you would want to look for the number stamped into the top of the frame rail, I don't remember if it is the right side or the left, or whether it is towards the front or the rear.
