I did exactly as Rusty described, but first I cut two opposing grooves with a hacksaw blade on the inside of the pipe, carefully stopping before I got into the threads. (I had removed the manifold and held it in a vise). That way, when I hammered it inwards with a small cold chisel, I broke the remaining pieces into two sections. My Farmall Cub has a 1" NPT pipe, so that was the tap I used to clean up the manifold threads. A piece of 1" black iron pipe is your replacement, although if you could find a piece of stainless steel it would be pretty slick.
