McCormick-Deering 10-20 heads

it seems every time i come across one of these for sale and not running, the head is missing. were they known for cracking heads, or is there some other serious problem the heads develop???? is there a source for a good used head? if so, about how much does one go for? if i knew i could get a head somewhere, maybe i'd buy one of the headless ones i keep finding.
