The original switch had 4 positions on it. Looking at the knob side, all the way to the left was Off, then Dim, Bright and Rear. Using an ohm meter, find the contact that is the power in from the amp meter and then as you rotate the switch to each position, mark that contact for where to attach the wires. You can also find the connections in the service manual for the 340 on the electrical diagram page.
