It is probably coincidental. Have you put a meter on the switch? If it is a dead short, which I suspect it is, the meter will indicate that. If it isn't the switch, there is a short somewhere that is keeping the juice going so that the switch is inconsequential. Shorts are one of the hardest of the electical problems to diagnose, generally I find mine by chance. I once found a starter wire shorted to a manifold while I was trying to pull the starter off a Ford V-8. Just looked up and there it was. Open grounds are just pull your hair out crazy to find. Shorts can generally be found with a meter, eyeballing the wiring, feeling along until ya get bit, etc. Good luck. Another way to stop your tractor is to shut off the fuel at the sediment bowl, which isn't hard on the tractor at all. Recommended in the operator's manual for a tractor going into storage.
