Tim: I took a look at these hydros 30 years ago when they were new. I looked more than once. Finally I went with a 656 diesel gear drive. As a buyer and user of new tractors, I felt the hydro was just not efficient enough. Unless I had a vegetable farm requiring precission seeding and harvesting just not worth it. Some will try to tell how much more productive they are baling hay. Many, many times I have baled 3,500 to 4,500 bales per day using a bale thrower and 300, 560 or 656 on the baler. You try for anymore than that with a hydro, can't be done on a regular basis. When I needed a tractor for shuttle work, I went to Deere power shift. 13,000 hours and no repairs to engine or transmission. Hydro will cost you as much every 5,000 hours as you are going to pay for that 656.
