I'm about to remove and replace a distributor on my H to check the advance mechanism's weights and springs. I've never done this before and can't find a breakdown of steps in the archives. The steps I'm planning to follow are: 1) Line the crank pulley TDC mark up with the timing pointer. 2) Mark a line on the distributor flange across over onto the housing it fits into. 3) Also mark where the rotor points to on the rim of of the distributor housing. 4) Undo the distributor clamps (the ones you loosten to adjust the timing) and pull the distributor out from the flange up. I've heard somewhere there's a slight rotation that happens upon removal because of the cant of the gears so . . . 5) Mark where the rotor points after I get the distributor out, to allow for this movement. And, of course, reverse steps to replace. Is this procedure correct? Any pointers? TIA
