I think you really WANT to start repairing. "Won't" is a contraction of "will not".(sorry, my wife is a teacher and I cant get away with anything) Anyway, you'll want to get an owners manual and an I&T shop manual too. They will be a BIG help. I have catalogs from a couple of places CNKS suggested and they are great.
P.S. - cost of repairs must be kept a secret from your wife!
