How to fix a crack in clutch housing on H?

I just noticed I have about a 3 inch crack starting on the very bottom of the clutch housing on my H. I thought about drilling a hole at the end of the crack to stop it and try to get it welded. Is this the best way to fix this problem? Any Ideas? I would like to stop it before it grows larger.
