Farmall M generator?

Hello. The M was running great then quits. Feels as if battery is dead. I get back with the jumper battery 15 minutes later on two cranks it starts up and great 1/2 hour or so, then same thing. also Fan belt is loose to the fan. Bad generator? Vapor lock from overheated engine? I won't be able to work on it until weekend. I thought I would ask for your thoughts before I start screwing around with it. thanks.
