Roger, the bearings you're taking out may not be the originals. Your M is over 50 years old, and if it's been used hard, they've probably already been replaced once. I'd want as many balls as possible in those bearings if the tractor was mine. I'm not sure about the specific bearings you're dealing with, but many of the bearings in the rear end of an M or SM can be replaced with 560 bearings. In some cases, they are considerably heavier. I have both an M and SM which were upgraded everywhere possible the last time they were opened up in the mid-1960s. They've seen considerable use since then, and have had no problems.
