Taking steering shaft out of top of the rad. ASAP

Hi, just over at my friends place tkaing stuff of the tractor before he sandblasts it. We want to take the rad off, so it dont get sanded. What do you have to do to get the steering shaft out of the top of the rad? Do you dissconnect it at the universal joint By the gauges?. What do you all take off before blasting? We are taking the plug wires off, all the electrical wires, regulater, coil, distributer. Anything else that we should take off? Thanks
