I just purchased a sickle bar mower for my A in August. I live in Washington and had to look high and low to find one. I ended up buying the mounted rear sickle bar mower that I think is model 22 or 23. It has a six foot bar on it, but think you could get those in a 5, 6 or 7 foot bar. My Dad had a pull behind sickle bar mower that he had behind his C for quite awhile. It had a single rubber tire on it. The A has the offset PTO and so that limits to some extent the mowers that you can use. My understanding is that the A had the rear mounted sickle bar mower and also the under the belly sickle bar mower that were designed for it. The pull type that mounted to the draw bar with a tire to support the back were designed to work with tractors with the PTO in the center. Perhaps Harold or Guy or Phil can clarify this.
It took me about two to three months to find my mower and ended up buying one off of a tractor that was for sale. I had to drive 100 miles to go get it and then had to take it off of the tractor. I got for $300.
Good luck and hope that you find one.

The answer to our needs materialized in the form of a '44 Farmall A, complete with cultivators, discs, single plow, a 5ft.Woods belly mower and one, mounted spare 9.00x24 rear wheel. ...
