International 434 tractor

I am a novice to tractor restoration and have an International 434 tractor from 1967. When I start the tractor, although there is not much smoke from the exhaust, there is considerable smoke from the oil filler cap and even from the dip stick hole. I suspect I have a serious engine problem. Can anyone offer advice and do you think it is something that a relative novice could tackle?
Also does anyone know where to get hold of a workshop manual?
