I pulled the old H a few years ago and I pulled in second gear. I played around with it at home first by chaining it to the pickup and dragging it around the field backwards with the brakes all locked till I got the right gear and speed. I just happened to have a hard packed field road that is similar to a dirt pulling track. My 10 year old son had a fun time in the pickup with me draging him around. What I found out is you want the fastest gear you can spin the wheels sitting still in the dirt like on the track. Too low a gear and you won't have enough momentum and too high of a gear and you run out of power. You just need to take it out and play with it. The tractor ,that is!
