Breaking a spring would be bad. How much advance are you running ? Looking at some of the other posts, I'm curious, how long does your motor last between rebuilds ? What fails ? The parts book shows a different set of springs as part of the Fire Crater Power Improvement Package. The local IH dealer was able to get them and they were one red and one yellow. The instructions said to set the maximum advance to 22 degrees, and fiddle with it to keep the initial advance at TDC.

Tractor Traction - by Chris Pratt. Our first bout with traction problems came when cultivatin with our Massey-Harris Pony. Up till then, this tractor had been running a corn grinder and pulling a trailer. It had new unfilled rear tires and no wheel weights.
