I just replaced the brake pads in my 504. I would recommend that you knock out the center cap in the brake housing cover, as Scott suggested. I had to hit it pretty hard to get it to come out, but once it is out you will easily be able to align the outer brake with the spline. Once everything is installed the center cap can be tapped back in with a hammer.
