Let me guess, The break and subsequent patch is right under one of the bull gears!!! This was a problem on the M's and subsequent series with IH. What happened was the real axle bearing would go out, the balls would drop to the bottom of the case and there isn't enough clearance between the case and bull gear for the ball. Unstoppable force and immovable object results in a broken case. Look at some M's at a show some time, if there are very many you are bound to find a few with repaired cases.

Now to answer your question. First thing I would do is find the casting number if those are the same I would change the case out. If you want the numbers to match or want to keep the tag number for the accessorys on the receipent tractor procede as follows.

Sharpen the edge of a tiny "wonder bar" type pry bar and drive it under the tag at the rivets and you can pry the rivets up. The tag will probably get wrecked but you can get new ones from D&D in Mason City, IA they will put your serial number on. Their tags aren't perfect copies but they look real good, Only thing wrong with them is the letters are printed on instead of raised like the originals.

Or you could grind the rivets off the recepient and save that tag & Use the above method on the donor and save the holes and rivets.
