49 M 3 bolt drum disk brake adjustment

Since this isn't covered in the owner's or service manuals and this was an add-on, whats the process for adjusting these disk brakes (3 bolt drum)? externally, I only see the nuts on the bolt coming out of the drum and the linkage with the spring at the base of the pedal. I figure the linkage is to adjust free movement of the pedals and the bolt coming out of the drum is for adjusting the brakes, but I'm not sure of the sequence.

From what I've tried, it seems that I have to do a lot of trial and error of adjusting the linkage and then having to back out the nut on the bolt coming from the drum to be able to get the pin back through the linkage and then tighten the nut back down on the drum. Seems like there has to be an easier and faster way.
