Impulse coupling weights

does the coil in the small steel spring that goes under the impulse coupling weights go around the post that the weights rotate on or does the coil go out in front of the post. when i took them off i swore that they were out in front but when i put them back together it seemed to make more sense that the coil loop around the post. thanks jeff
