Darren: I think you should be able to get the shorter belt on there. Just put it over the fan one blade at a time. I have alternators on all 3 of my tractors and the belt is short enough that I can mount the cultivators on any one of them. Without some kind of assist you will have trouble with the alternator exciting. Like scotty said, don't get that belt too tight.
