Since you are talking about restoration, I would say that the first thing is to decide how much you want to spend. You might be able to have a nice running, original tractor and spend a couple hundred bucks. Or you can have a better than original M and spend $3-$5000 or more, I'm sure. Even if money is no object, you can spend more on it than it will be worth. I like the change oil, grease, and tune it up school of thought. An IT manual, the HI Blue Ribbon manual (google binder books or look at this site), and a parts book will be most helpful in figuring out what you need and how it goes together.
