The plow may weigh 150lbs, but are you getting any mechanical advantage (or loss) from the lifting mechanism? Depending on the leverage, the lift arms could see 50 lbs, or 250 lbs. Get out your geometry/statics book, take some measurements, and see what the lift arms are really seeing. There will also be frictional losses in the pulley or cable-routing system, but they may not be severe, if the system is well engineered. Are the lift arms straining under the load? You could make two lift devices (cable mechanisms), and use both lift arms in tandem, one on each side. You might have to 'tune' the arms after setting the blade down. Sounds like an interesting design - I have a back blade and have wished for a front blade on occasion on my Super A. As far as your mount being different than factory, there isn't much of any place other than the drawbar to which front implements can be mounted, so your approach isn't radically different than 'factory'.
