Ken - Diesel won't separate or decompose in storage - even in low temperature. Only thing it might do is develop algae growth. But then only if there is water (condensation) in the container along with the fuel. If in doubt fill a clear quart glass container with the fuel and shine a light thru it. If the fuel is clear (no trace of cloudiness) or have an odd rotten/musty smell it's OK. When you do use the fuel, pour it out slowly (to not stir it up). Discard the last quart or two in the bottom of the container - if there is condensation/algae it'll be settled there.
