Hey Jon - When you replaced the coil you didn't by chance happen to get a "12 volt" coil (one with an internal ballast resistor)?

A 12 volt coil on a 6 volt system will develop enough spark to run the motor when it's pull started, but will not provide adequate spark to fire it while cranking with the starter.
