Direct start WD6??

A friend has a road grader built on what looks like a WD6 and the gas system is in a 25 year state of disrepair but the diesel runs good. Surely someone on this board has come up with a starter heavy enough to crank it on diesel or knows that it absolutely will not work. He says he can pull start it with a small pickup but if he kills it with the blade in the ground, he has to go get a big farm tractor to start it. Help if you can. Thanks, Scott
