grill for A or B?

I was at an auction a while back, and a grill that
looked the same as that for an A or B sold.

What was strange about it was the part of the grill that had the horizontal ribs were missing.

In place of the ribs was a screen? I wondered if
this grill would have fit my A farmall. It sold for $12.

Anyone know what this grill fit, and why it had the screen on it? Was $12 a good buy?
