Carl: If my memory serves me correctly you are adjusting a 504 with a TA. Just in case the TA adjustment is away off remove the pin from the short linkage between clutch shaft and TA shaft, until you get proper adjustment on the clutch pedal. When the clutch pedal adjustment is correct then adjust the TA as the book describes both the short linkage I just mentioned and the linkage to the TA lever. I agree with scotty on the spring removal as well. Also when checking for free pedal movement use you hand as oposed to your foot, you will feel it hit the release bearing more easily.
