From your description, it has to be between late 1926 and early 1929. All other years of tractor had the exhaust coming out through the side curtain. There should be a serial number stamped on the block. This is located on the manifold side of the engine on a raised, finished part of the casting. Number should start with "KC" and then a number. Consult the serial chart in this site for the year. If you can't read this number there is a casting date on the belly of the frame, just about in the middle. It can't be any older than this date. I would guess you tractor is a 1928. Made a lot of them that year! Hope this helps.
