Cub overheating

I bought a Cub in November just when the weather was getting chilly and now I'm fired up about spring so I can get to work on it. It starts and runs like a champ, but when I engage the belly mower and get it under the slightest of load, it will boil water from the radiator within a minute. Short of sharpening the blades (they need it), is there anything else I need to check on? The guy I bought it from rebuilt the engine and I assumed he flushed the cooling system. The water appears clean in the radiator. Thanks for your help!
