removing the belly pump on a super M

I just bought a Super M at an auction this weekend and need to pull the belly pump.
I have pulled the belly pump from my H a few times but I noticed there isn't as much room to work on the M, is the proceedure about the same as an H?
I need to find out what happened to the clutch or transmission. the previous owner told me that there was a loud pop then the clutch was released one time and now the engine won't turn over, the crank will move a few degrees back and forth but stops as if it hits something.
If you have any input I'd appreciate your ideas.
