The first thing I would do is do a compression test the second thing would be to replace the plugs with autolite 388s BUT be sure the old and new plugs are the same length as not to hit the piston.388s are a hot plug put them in my smta and no more fouling.Also check the valve adjustment and get rid of the old points install pertronix electonic ignition.Make sure the thermostat is working properly,when these engines do not get to proper operating temp you are just asking for trouble.Paul.
