Rusty – A leaking manifold can only cause a miss when the engine is in gas mode. Once it’s switched over to diesel the motor will run fine with a leaking manifold. (In fact it would continue to run even if you were remove the manifold!)

Gordon – Regarding the miss, when the engine is fully warmed up on diesel is the exhaust clear or does it puff white?

If it’s clear it means the missing cylinder is not getting fuel. Try bleeding out the #1 injector. If that doesn’t do it try swapping the #1 injector with one of the other three (be sure to bleed them both out after swapping). If #1 is still not firing problem’s gotta be with injection pump. However if the problem follows the old #1 injector to it’s new cylinder location, you’ve got a bad injector.

If white is showing in the exhaust, it means the misfiring cylinder is getting fuel but doesn’t have the compression necessary to fire it. Carefully check/reset the clearance on all (3) valves on #1. If it still doesn’t fire you’ve either a valve problem or bad rings.
