1456 boosted 200 more RPM from 2400 to 2600 to raise horsepower to compete with JD's 4420, I belive. Not sure on the JD number, but there was a tractor compared to the 1256 that had more power, so edging into a 1456 put IH back into competition. DT engines have dual oil injectors, larger cooling capacties, and often DT pistons. My IH dealership mechanic said he can get an 856 to 200 horsepower without too much stress, as the engines are able to take it. Some 856's were built with D407's, a simpler engine, and it is not recommended to put a turbo straight on those. That's what I've read, anyway.
